The actual science of building muscle is not too hard because anyone can build muscle and bulk up by doing lots of strength training in the gym and consuming plenty of protein, for example.
The hard part is keeping yourself motivated when you hit a plateau or when you start losing your enthusiasm, for example.
The fact is that achieving your dream body requires a lot of hard work and dedication, and there are many people who simply don’t have the drive and determination to succeed.
So in this article I thought it would be a good idea to list five really effective ways you can motivate yourself to build more muscle:
1. Use Social Media
There are an abundance of social networking sites that can you can use in this day and age, but if you are looking for workout motivation, there are two in particular that you should consider using – Instagram and Pinterest.
That’s because these are both focused on photos and images, and not only will you find lots of useful motivational tips and quotes, but you will also be able to follow people who have the kind of physiques that you are looking to emulate yourself.
Therefore seeing these successful people in your feed every day will really spur you on to hit the gym and push yourself hard.
2. Make Friends In The Gym
Another good motivational tactic is to make some new friends in the gym, and more specifically, try to befriend some of the most successful members who have already achieved some impressive muscle gains.
That’s because these people are themselves very dedicated individuals and by seeing how they operate and how hard they work, you will have a lot more drive and determination to reach the same level yourself.
3. Watch World’s Strongest Man
One thing that is guaranteed to get me out of my armchair and into the gym is the annual World’s Strongest Man competition.
This competition is televised in many different countries all over the world, and obviously features the strongest men in the world.
So I can guarantee that you will feel inadequate by watching these phenomenal athletes in action, and will definitely feel that you need to spend more hours in the gym as a result.
Here is the final of the last year’s competition if you haven’t yet seen it:
4. Write Down Your Targets
A lot of people keep turning up at the gym and doing the same old routines without having any real goals or objectives.
Subsequently there will come a time when they start lacking motivation once they stop seeing any new gains.
A much better strategy is to write down your goals, and set yourself challenging targets for various different exercises so that you have something to work towards and are always progressing.
For example, if you are currently bench pressing 150 pounds, you could set yourself the ambitious but achievable goal of bench pressing 200 pounds in 6 months time, and do the same with many other exercises.
This is a great motivational tactic that is used by a lot of bodybuilders and athletes because it is so effective.
5. Use Visualization Techniques
One final thing you should do is visualize yourself having a strong muscular physique every time you look in the mirror.
This is something I have always done myself and it really does work. Indeed you can use visualization techniques throughout the day.
If you are constantly imagining yourself as being strong, muscular and ripped, and subsequently a lot more attractive to the opposite sex, you will have a lot more motivation to work hard in order to make this visualization become a reality.
